GreatLIFE Cares Foundation welcomes Nebraska football legend and the program’s founder Tom Osborne to speak January 3rd, 11am at The Instructional Planning Center. The former University of Nebraska coach and state representative will speak on the value of mentoring and help announce Sioux Falls TeamMates.
The Sioux Falls School Board acknowledges that there is a waiting list in excess of several hundred students that could benefit from having a mentor. The Board recognizes TeamMates as an organization with a successful history of providing mentors to school aged children.
Last year, TeamMates served more than 10,000 youth in more than 170 communities across Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas, Wyoming and Iowa. Mentors meet with their mentees one-on-one in school, once a week, during the academic year. They help students identify their gifts and talents, assist with homework and spend time just talking.
Lora Hayes, Sioux Falls TeamMates Executive Director says, “We are proud to bring this partnership to Sioux Falls. The value of mentoring is proven and indisputable. Everyone excels through mentoring partnerships.”
Mentees can be nominated one of three ways. They can be nominated by a parent, a school staff member, or self-nominate at https://siouxfallsteammates.org/. Mentors are matched with mentees based on interests and life experiences.
GreatLIFE Cares Foundation, the philanthropic arm of GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness Club joins the partnership with TeamMates to serve local middle and high school students in the Sioux Falls School District. The foundation’s $80,000 contribution will help students achieve high school graduation by providing weekly mentorship to students.
“Every young person deserves to have someone to turn to,” says GreatLIFE CEO/HCL Tom Walsh Sr. “The mission of the TeamMates Mentoring Program is to impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential.”
TeamMates is one of the many programs supported by GreatLIFE Cares Foundation. The launch of TeamMates is in support of January National Mentoring Month and the City of Sioux Falls’ call to encourage more citizens to mentor.
The TeamMates Mentoring Program began in 1991 with the vision of University of Nebraska Head Football Coach Tom Osborne and his wife Nancy. TeamMates is a school-based, one-to-one mentoring program. The focus of the mentoring relationship is for an adult volunteer to help build a positive relationship with a student to help them reach their full potential. The program serves thousands of boys and girls across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Wyoming and South Dakota with mentors and mentees from all walks of life.
